Medical Stay

Points | Generally hospitalization of the applicant (patient) is a requirement. A Short-Term Stay visa may be obtained instead for treatment that takes fewer than 90 days. |
Other | Residents of Japan are only required to pay 20 to 30% of their medical bills due to health insurance, but visitors from overseas are responsible for their entire bill as they are not paying into the health insurance program. Even if the family of a visitor resides in Japan, there is no discount for medical care and it is not usually an ideal destination for medical tourism. |
